THE TRIBE LIFE: What the heck is Yoga?
Have you ever found yourself asking the question, "What the heck is yoga”?
Or maybe you’ve been to a yoga class and your teacher ends class with “namaste” and you’ve wondered, what does that even mean?
Is that some kind of voodoo spiritual chant?!
I’ve been there.
I used to be the yoga student who would avoid classes where the teacher got “too spiritual” for my taste. Even chanting “om” during class was a big red flag to get out of there.
Fear of the unknown.
Now I’m the teacher who closes every practice with a Namaste and prefers to chant “om” every once in awhile just because it feels so good!
I’ve had a few brave insiders message me asking those very questions, so before I get too wild with classes after classes, I wanted to first give a brief intro into what exactly yoga is, to help clear up any confusion.
So this week I have two new videos to share with you.
Video #1 answers the question “What is yoga?” as well as a few other commonly asked questions.
Click on the video below to hear my answer.
In this video I reference Jade yoga mats, you can check them out by clicking HERE.
P.s. For every yoga mat sold, they will plant a tree, and since 2006 they have planted over 1 million trees! #love
P.P.S. I do not make any profit from this recommendation - I will only recommend products that I honestly believe in or use myself and to keep things 100% honest with you guys I will always give you a heads up when I do make a profit on affiliated links.
Video #2 is a simple flow yoga class (it’s only 5 minutes!) that is perfect for any skill level, especially complete beginners. This sequence is perfect if you’re looking to start a simple sequence to work out the kinks in your body.
Click on the video below to access this class.
My hope is that these videos help make yoga more accessible, less confusing, and less intimidating for you.
But that’s not it…
In addition to these videos I also have some new blog posts:
POSTURE BREAKDOWNS: For any questions on the proper alignment for any of the poses in video #2, click here, here, here, here, and here for posture breakdowns (for a larger list of posture breakdowns, click HERE)
FYS: Lastly, a new post of some of my favorite yoga studios in New York City – click HERE to check it out! P.s. I’m always trying out new studios in the city so make sure to revisit this post in the future as this list continues to grow.
Once you’ve had a chance to watch this week’s videos and check out the new posts, I’d love to know…
Was this helpful? What other questions to do you have about yoga? Any postures you are curious about that I haven’t yet explained on my blog?
Remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question. Everyone starts out brand new at some point.

I’d love to know!
Be brave, I guarantee someone else has the exact same question you do!
Oh, and one more thing.
Be patient with yoga.
It can be a frustrating practice sometimes…but if done consistently, it WILL change your life and help you become the best version of you.
I can promise you that.
With so much gratitude,
P.S. If you’ve got a family member or friend who you think might be interested in learning more about yoga, or would love a super simple yoga sequence like the one above - share this post. It can help them feel less intimidated about starting a yoga practice!
